NEW DELHI: Calling upon for better integration of regional space through planning, Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy on Saturday said there is a need for balanced development through integration of urban and hinterland.
"Small and medium towns falling within metropolitan regions have an important role to play in the development of rural hinterland as they can absorb rural population. They also act as links between rural areas and metropolitan cities," Reddy said.
He was speaking at a seminar on Planning and Development of Metropolitan regions here.
He said the regional plan should be the first level of planning based on territorial vision for different levels of plans and management.
About 75 participants from all over the country attended the seminar.
