Taxpayers with income exceeding ₹50 lakh or those who own more than one house will now have to provide additional details while filing their income-tax return (ITR).

The tax department is seeking details of Legal Entity Identifier (LEI); any contributions made to political parties, including the date and mode of payment; and information on any deductions claimed for the maintenance, including medical treatment, of a dependent who is a person with disability.

An LEI is a unique code for identification within the global financial system. This is required for credit of refunds exceeding ₹50 crore.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes on Friday notified ITR forms 2, 3 and 5 for filing returns for assessment year 2024-25. The additional details are being sought under ITR-2. This form is filed by resident individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) with more than one house or those with income in excess of ₹50 lakh. Individual taxpayers who generate income from a business or a profession have to file ITR-3.

ITR-1 and ITR-6 are already notified.

ITR-4 is for resident individuals, HUFs and firms, other than LLPs, with income of up to ₹50 lakh. This income can either be from a business or a profession.
