Industry hails export promotion sops for Northeast India

Industry bodies have welcomed the export promotion sops for Northeast India as announced by the Union Industry Minister Anand Sharma.

GUWAHATI: Industry bodies have welcomed the export promotion sops for Northeast India as announced by the Union Industry Minister Anand Sharma while releasing the annual supplement to the Foreign Trade Policy recently.

Chairman of Federation of Industry and Commerce of the North East Region (FINER), R.S Joshi said it is indeed a very positive step by the Government of India in encouraging exports from the region, keeping in tune with the earlier Look East policy.

Joshi explained that the decision to reduce the export obligation under Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) scheme to 25 % of the normal export obligation now been made applicable to North Eastern States and Sikkim and now with Myanmar being included in the list of Focused Market Scheme (FMS) will definitely help the manufacturing activity and employment generation in the region.
