Indian ministries, states, companies to participate in Dubai Expo, multiple MoUs to be inked: Trade secretary

He said the India Pavilion at the expo will showcase the country's march to becoming a $5 trillion economy and give a fillip to Indian business with a number of memorandum of understanding expected to be inked.

Commerce Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam on Thursday said that a number of Indian states, union territories, government departments, startups and corporates will participate in the six-month Expo 2020 Dubai that would begin October 1.

He said the India Pavilion at the expo will showcase the country's march to becoming a $5 trillion economy and give a fillip to Indian business with a number of memorandum of understanding expected to be inked.

“India’s exceptional fightback against COVID-19 and the country’s emergence as a global business hub presenting huge opportunities for the world will be the overarching theme of India’s participation at Expo 2020 Dubai,” he said.


The secretary said that a large number of prominent ministers, officials and celebrities are set to visit the pavilion.

The four-storey pavilion will also feature an innovative kinetic facade made up of 600 individual colourful blocks. It is developed as a mosaic of rotating panels that will depict different themes as they rotate on their axis.

The entire four-storey structure is divided into two parts. The zones are identified based on 11 primary themes - Climate and Biodiversity, Space, Urban and Rural Development, Tolerance and Inclusivity, Golden Jubilee, Knowledge and Learning, Travel and Connectivity, Global Goals, Health and Wellness, Food Agriculture and Livelihoods and Water.

The building, which was put up by state-owned NBCC, is ready for operationalisation.

“Very high level of participation will be there from India. The expo will provide a good platform for businesses. Startups have been given a special space in our pavilion. Movie stars will visit,” he said, adding that there would be “live models of many of our heritage buildings...Ram Mandir will be there, Varanasi reconstruction will be there”.

The commerce and industry ministry said in a statement that the India Pavilion will also be hosting and co-creating leadership discussions, international trade conferences, and seminars to explore opportunities to partner with other participating nations.

Besides, at the India Pavilion, the visitors will also get the chance to witness star-studded nights, multiple cultural shows, Indian festivals celebration and relish the Indian delicacies.
