NEW DELHI: Government will introduce an integrated food law bill in the Parliament in 2-3 days paving the way for a single regulator in the country, Food Processing Minister Subodh Kant Sahai said on Monday.
"Government will come with the integrated food law bill in 2-3 days to the Parliament," Sahai said at a convention on 'Investment Opportunities and Challenges in Orissa,'.
Sahai said this has been a long pending demand from industry and stakeholders who were facing difficulties under the multiplicity of food laws.
On August four, the Cabinet had cleared the Food & Safety & Standards Bill for introduction of an integrated food law in the country.
Nine existing laws including the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act and various orders issued under the Essential Commodities Act would become redundant with the enactment of the Bill.
While seven other laws would be modified and aligned with the proposed Act to make them industry friendly.
"There will be one food law in the country starting from national level to panchayats", he said.
