BANGALORE: India must adopt a strong patent law which gives protection in all fields of technology and should ensure implementation of the patent regime, an international intellectual property expert said.
The Director of Intellectual Property Rights of George Washington University, Martin J Adelman, said here that India might harm its economy, if it did not have a strong patent law.
Speaking at a seminar on "IPR Perspectives: Global Review and Indian Application,", Adelman said a good patent system would attract investments in scientific research and development and talent.
Japan, he said, had strengthened its patent laws to strengthen its economy.
He said one of the advantages India had was its judicial system.
Adelman said the US patent system had some flaws, for which corrective action needed to be taken, as in the Indian IPR laws.
