India not to cut customs duties on SSI items: Jaitley

NEW DELHI: The government would incorporate a provision in SSI Act to make it mandatory that a certain percentage of purchases by state departments are sourced from the sector.
Speaking at National Leadership Summit, Minister for Small Scale Sector C P Thakur said the government had initiated a move to encourage setting up of five new SSI units and revival of five sick units in each Parliamentary constituency with active participation of public representatives.
He said the move will help in realisation of the socio-economic objective of growth, employment and exports and inspire new entrepreneurs.
A statement read out on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani said the country needed to develop global brands for its products.
