India has initiated an anti- dumping investigation against imports of Methylene Chloride from Korea.

NEW DELHI: India has initiated an anti- dumping investigation against imports of Methylene Chloride from Korea.
The designate anti-dumping authority has initiated the investigation on the basis of a petition filed by the Vadodara based Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd on behalf of the domestic industry.
The Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties under the Commerce Ministry will carry out the investigation for the period April-December 2002.
In its initiation notification, the DGAD said that there was prima facie evidence that imports of the product under consideration had caused material injury to the domestic industry.
"There is sufficient evidence that the normal value of the product under consideration in Korea is significantly higher than the prices at which it has been exported to India, indicating prima facie that the subject goods are being dumped by the exporters from Korea," it said.
The product under investigation - Methylene Chloride is a solvent which is used as a paint stripper and in photo films, bulk drugs and pharmaceutical industry.
It is also consumed for manufacture of foam, resin casting fumigants and agrochemicals.
