IIP to open three new centres in next five years

IIP under the Ministry of Commerce would soon start three centres in Assam, Gujarat and Karnataka in the 12th Five Year Plan, a top official said.

CHENNAI: The Indian Institute of Packaging under the Ministry of Commerce would soon start three centres in Assam, Gujarat and Karnataka in the 12th Five Year Plan, a top official said today.

"We are opening three new centres in Guwahati, Ahmedabad and Bangalore. These centres will come up during the next few years of the 12th Plan," IIP Director and Principal Executive Officer N C Saha told reporters here.

IIP already has offices in Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad, in addition to its head office in Mumbai.

The Institute presently offers a two-year diploma programme in packaging and is planning to start a four-year B Tech degree in Packaging Technology.

"It would be a four-year B Tech in Packaging Technology and the intake would be 60 seats. We have started construction for the building and hostel facilities. It would start from the year 2014," Saha said.

The programme would be affiliated to the University of Mumbai.
