IBSA Foreign Ministers to meet tomorrow

India, Brazil and South Africa will hold their trilateral Foreign Ministerial meeting here tomorrow to discuss ways to enhance their trade besides strengthening cooperation in energy, defence and other fields.

NEW DELHI: India, Brazil and South Africa will hold their trilateral Foreign Ministerial meeting here tomorrow to discuss ways to enhance their trade besides strengthening cooperation in energy, defence and other fields.

At the day-long meeting, the three sides will also deliberate upon preparations for the second IBSA Summit to be held in South Africa later this year.

The third Trilateral Commission meeting of India, Brazil and South Africa (IBSA), to be chaired by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, will be attended by Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim and South African Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.

The three sides are expected to review the progress IBSA has made since the first "landmark" Summit in Brazil in September last year, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said here today.

They are also expected to discuss ways in which the trilateral cooperation could be enhanced further in 13 identified areas, including trade, economy, energy, defence and transport.

The three countries have set a trade target of US $10 billion for this year among themselves and discussions will centre around ways in which this can be achieved.

Cooperation in civil nuclear energy, consistent with international norms, may also figure in the discussions.

At the Summit meeting, the three countries had agreed to explore approaches to cooperate in peaceful uses of nuclear energy under appropriate IAEA safeguards.
