The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has amended income-tax rules to permit authentication of records for faceless assessment through electronic verification code or EVC.

This will help companies and other assesees that were mandatorily required to authenticate electronic records by digital signature, but the facility was unavailable till now.

"In order to provide the benefit of the simplified process of authentication by EVC to these persons, it has been decided to extend the simplified process of authentication by EVC to these persons also," the board said, referring to cases under faceless assessment.

Legislative amendments in this regard will be proposed in due course, the board added.
