HP sends Rs 735 cr water scheme to Planning Commission

The Himachal Pradesh government has sent a Rs 735 crore scheme to the Planning Commission for bringing water from the Pubbar river to Shimla.


SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh government has sent a Rs 735 crore scheme to the Planning Commission for bringing water from the Pubbar river to Shimla.

Under the scheme, the water would be brought to Shimla through gravity and thus there would be no expenditure on power, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal told reporters after launch of "clean Shimla" campaign at ridge maidan.

The Chief Minister said the scheme would meet the shortage of drinking water in the capital town till 2050.

The CM said that the Rs 68 crores Giri water supply scheme should be functional within the next fortnight which would solve the problem of drinking water till 2020.

Water shortage has created a lot of problems for the citizens and tourists in the hill station.
