Hike MSP for wheat: BJP
The BJP on Saturday demanded the minimum support price for wheat be increased to Rs 1,000 per quintal and interest rates be lowered on farm loans.
BJP general secretary Gopinath Munde, whose party has sought resignation of Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar, accused him of failure in dealing with the farm crisis.
"Immediate steps, such as increasing the MSP for wheat to Rs 1,000 per qunital, are taken to address the problems faced by farmers. We demand that farm loans be extended at an interest rate of four per cent annually," Munde, who is in charge of a farmers' rally that the BJP is scheduled to hold on August 20, told reporters here.
He insisted that farmers in different states, especially in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, have not yet received payment for their produce procured by authorities. "The total outstanding payment is as high as Rs 2,600 crore. It should be paid immediately."
Munde, who demanded a white paper be issued on NABARD loans, said his party would press for the resignation of Pawar at its August 20 rally at the Ram Lila ground.
