Haryana increases relief package to displaced farmers

The relief package, for farmers whose land has been acquired after the present government came to power, has been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 per acre per annum for 33 years.

JHAJHAR (HARYANA): The Haryana government on Sunday announced to increase the relief package for farmers whose land has been acquired after the present government came to power from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 per acre per annum for 33 years.

Two months ago, the government has announced a relief package of Rs 10,000 per acre per annum for compulsory acquisition.

"For those farmers whose land has been acquired after my government came into power for any construction activity would be paid Rs 15,000 an acre per annum for 33 years. An increment of Rs 500 will be made every year, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said. He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony Indira Gandhi Super Power station here.

The government has also announced that one person per each family whose land has been acquired for the power plant would be employed in the plant. The 1,500 MW plant is expected to come up in 2010-11.
