guwahati: tourism in the north eastern sector is expected to get a fillip with the operation of international flights from the lokapriya gopinath bordoloi airport here from april 4. this was decided at a high level coordination meeting presided over by chief minister tarun gogoi who said the government would leave no stone unturned to expedite all matters relating to smooth operation of international flights from guwahati, official sources said today. the chief minister directed the state tourism department to tie up with travel agencies and hotel chains for promotion of guwahati-bangkok air india flights. the meeting arrived at a consensus that the tourism department would provide in-flight short films on attractive tourist spots of the state and bring out special brochures on niche tourism as tea, golf and wild life, sources said. to encourage two-way tourist traffic, journalists from south east asian countries would be invited to a tourism workshop involving all ne states prior to the inaugural flight.
