Gujarat chamber hails DEPB sops for exports to SEZ

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has welcomed department of commerce and revenue move to grant duty entitlement pass book (DEPB) benefits for exports made to special economic zones (SEZs) by exporters in domestic tariff area as a part of the comprehensive customs rules from May 1, 2004.
In a statement, GCCI president Shreyas V Pandya said with the commerce and revenue departments compromising their differences for the common benefit, the exporting community would be at an advantage. Under the system, the revenue department will now delegate powers to customs officials below the rank of commissioners as a measure to help special economic zones units avoid any delays.
