Gujarat blames Centre for hike in fuel adjustment charges

The Gujarat Minister of State for Energy Saurabh Patel has blamed the Centre for hike in the fuel adjustment charges on the 80 lakh consumers in Gujarat.

VADODARA: The Gujarat Minister of State for Energy Saurabh Patel has blamed the Centre for hike in the fuel adjustment charges on the 80 lakh consumers in Gujarat.

There is an increase of 35 paise charge per unit in Gujarat with restrospective effect from April 1, 2008.

Talking to PTI on phone today, Patel said that the financial burden on the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) has gone up by Rs 925 crore per quarter which is due to the steep increase in the prices of gas, coal, oil and other fuels.

Rs 600 crore burden out of a total burden of Rs 925 crore is due to the steep hike in the prices of gas and for remaining amount of Rs 325 crore, is due to hike in prices of coal, LNG, oil etc, Patel said.

Patel argued that there was no need for GUVNL to make a hike in fuel adjustment charges if the centre had reversed back to old prices.

Patel said that the Centre has been forcing Gujarat to use imported coal for its coal based thermal power stations located in the state.
