GST 2.0: Full list of cars that get cheaper from today
Effective today, September 22, 2025, the new GST reforms bring significant price reductions on everyday essentials and automobiles. Staples like roti and paneer are now under the 0% GST bracket, and health insurance premiums are exempt. Automakers...

From today, everyday essentials—from food and household items to cars, TVs, and bikes—become more affordable for the common man and middle class. Many staples, including roti, parantha, paneer, and khakra, now fall under the NIL or 0% GST bracket. Notably, health and life insurance premiums will also be exempt from GST, offering additional relief.
A result of the rejig is that automobiles, which were earlier taxed at 28% with additional compensational cess ranging from 1% to 22%, are now placed in either 18% or 40% without any cess.
Under the new rates, small cars will be taxed 18% (petrol/LPG/CNG under 1,200 cc and sub-4-metre length; diesel up to 1,500 cc) and 40% for larger or luxury vehicles, replacing the prior 28% plus cess tax bracket.
Following the new policy, several major automakers including Tata, Hyundai, Honda, Skoda, Mahindra and Toyota have announced significant price cuts, extending the benefits of the reforms to their customers.
