Greenhouse emissions in India fall

While 25 richest countries registered a rise in greenhouse gas emissions, India witnessed lowering of such emissions.

NEW DELHI: While 25 richest countries registered a rise in greenhouse gas emissions, India witnessed lowering of such emissions.
“The emission intensity of carbon dioxide, the greenhouse gas contributing to climate change, has declined in India,� an official release said.
It said emission intensity measured in terms of release of carbon dioxide per unit output of GDP has declined by 60 gms per dollar of GDP.
India''s share in GHG emissions is only about 3% and environment-friendly initiatives in the energy sector have resulted in decline of carbon dioxide emission intensity as reported by international energy agency in ‘01.
