Govt to take up divestment of 15 PSUs, case by case
In keeping with its promise in the CMP, the UPA government has initiated review of disinvestment of 15 central public sector units under the administrative control of the ministry of heavy industries and public enterprises.
“In view of the new policy of the government on public sector, the exercise has been initiated to examine each case of disinvestment thoroughly, while taking a final view of the future of the public enterprises, a source said.
Along with the review of disinvestment cases, the estimate of government support that would be required for the PSUs, which the previous government had decided to sell off, would also be drawn up.
The companies for which the review has been initiated include Rajasthan Electronics and Instruments — a joint venture between Instrumentation and Riico — and profit-making companies like Engineering Projects (India).
Companies like Burn Standard, Hindustan Salts and Tyre Corporation of India, which are sick, have also been included in the review.
