MUMBAI: The government is close to finalising chief executive officers for public sector banks, which will see vacancies beginning next fiscal year. AK Mishra, ED, Canara Bank is tipped to take charge of Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) and KR Kamath, now with Bank of India, will head UCO Bank. The existing chairmen and managing directors (CMD) of OCB and UCO Bank will retire between March and May. While KC Chakrabarty, currently CMD of Indian Bank is tipped to take charge at Punjab National Bank (PNB) when the existing CMD SC Gupta retires in May. The government may appoint Yogesh Agarwal as CMD of IDBI Bank, when its existing chairman VP Shetty retires in June.

This will probably be the third time since MG Bhide and Madhukar that a senior executive of the SBI is being posted outside the bank.
Mr Bhide was SBIs MD in mid-90s when he took charge as CMD of BoI while Mr Madhukar, the then deputy MD, took charge of United Bank of India in early 2000.

Sources also said the government is close to finalising the names of the second executive director position in six PSU banks where the Centre had said an additional executive director post would be created. These banks include Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Union Bank, Canara Bank, and Central Bank of India.
