The government is determined to extend workers' rights to the unorganised sectors through a new Bill that is before the Parliament, and would extend the social security benefits, said Union Minister of Labour Oscar Fernandes.

NEW DELHI: The government is determined to extend workers' rights to the unorganised sectors through a new Bill that is before the Parliament, and would extend the social security benefits, said Union Minister of Labour Oscar Fernandes.

Addressing members of Union Network International, which has launched unions in IT, BPO and Commerce sectors along with projects for security guards, Fernandes said, "Unions can play a significant role in eradicating poverty in India and other countries."

The UNI is holding its world executive meet in New Delhi from October 25 to 26.
