Govt to computerise state treasuries

The Government today approved a Rs 626 crore project to computerise the state treasuries.

NEW DELHI: In a major initiative aimed at ensuring financial efficiency, the Government today approved a Rs 626 crore project to computerise the state treasuries enabling them to share data among themselves as well as with RBI and other concerned agencies.

The project under National E-governance Plan was cleared by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"The scheme, at an overall cost of Rs 626 crore aims at supporting the state governments to computerise their treasury functions," Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said.

She said implementation of the project will provide the required interface for data sharing among treasuries, state finance departments, Accountant General Offices, RBI and Central Plan Schemes Monitoring System of Controller General of Accounts.

"The focus of the project is to improve the efficiency and transparency of the financial administration of the State Governments," Soni said.
