Govt: Rs 87 cr for small towns

Government said on Monday that it has released over Rs 87 crore to 26 small and medium towns across three states under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

NEW DELHI: Government said on Monday that it has released over Rs 87 crore to 26 small and medium towns across three states under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
The amount was released to Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan to take up various schemes under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Medium and Small Towns (UIDSSMT) under the JNNURM, an official statement said.
Of Rs 87.78 crore, Andhra Pradesh gets Rs 49.23 crore, Rajasthan secures Rs 13.83 crore and Gujarat gets Rs 24.72 crore, it said and added that money was released on March 31.
The amount released is 50 per cent of the central share under UIDSSMT and the balance 50 per cent would be released on submission of utilisation certificates by nodal agency and after assessment of progress of implementation of reforms.
The objectives of UIDSSMT are to improve infrastructure facilities and help create durable public assets and quality oriented services in cities and towns, to enhance public- private-partnership in infrastructure development and to promote planned integrated development of towns and cities.
