Govt readies software to speed up money order transfers

To make money transfers faster, the government is in the process of developing a software for transmission of ordinary money order through electronic medium, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: To make money transfers faster, the government is in the process of developing a software for transmission of ordinary money order through electronic medium, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.

���The government is developing a software for transmission of ordinary money order through electronic medium. The development is in its initial stages currently,��� minister of state for communications and IT Shakeel Ahmad
said in a written statement in the Rajya Sabha.

The modular software involves many parts, which needs to be developed, integrated and tested before launch, he said adding the development is at its initial stages and the service would be started on successful testing of the software.

In reply to an another question, the minister said the Department of Posts has set up internet kiosks in post offices and railway mail service offices in a few major cities to enable the customers to browse.

Internet kiosks have been established at some selected offices in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Maharashtra circle.

Moreover, to leverage its network support, the Andhra Pradesh postal circle has entered into a tie-up with Girijan Cooperative, an undertaking of the Andhra Pradesh government, to retail the forest produce at 16 select post offices in Hyderabad city region and Hyderabad region.
