Govt proposes amendments in PFA rules

Government on Wednesday proposed amendments in Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules (PFA) to prescribe limits for certain pesticides in different food articles.


NEW DELHI: Government on Wednesday proposed amendments in Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules (PFA) to prescribe limits for certain pesticides in different food articles.

The amendments are proposed to be made in Rule 65 of the PFA relating to the Maximum Residue Limits/Tolerance Limits for certain pesticides in different food items, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said here on Wednesday.

The ministry also intends to prescribe the Maximum Residue Limits for six more pesticides registered by the Registration Committee under the Insecticide Act, 1968, a press release issued by it said.

This is in accordance with the limits prescribed by the internationally accepted Codex method.

The pesticides for which the maximum residual limits are fixed are - carbarly, Fenitrothion, Hydrogen Phosphide, Inorgaic Bromide, Malathion, Phosphamidon and Dithiocarbamates.
