Govt plans new laws to protect consumers

The government has formed six working groups within the Central Consumer Protection Council including one to formulate new acts to protect consumer interest.

AHMEDABAD: The government has formed six working groups within the Central Consumer Protection Council including one to formulate new acts to protect consumer interest.
Stating this here, consumer affairs minister Sharad Yadav said the other five working groups will look into food safety; drugs, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices; counterfeit, fake, and contraband products; consumer health and safety relating to tobacco products and misleading advertisements.
Addressing a function marking the silver jubilee of Consumer Education Research Centre (CERC), he said the new acts proposed to be enacted relate to unfair terms of contract, product liability, whistle blowers protection and builder licensing board.
