Govt okays introduction of Payment of Wages Act for amendment

The Union cabinet on Wednesday approved introduction of a bill to further amend the Payment of Wages Act, 1936.

NEW DELHI: The Union cabinet on Wednesday approved introduction of a bill to further amend the Payment of Wages Act, 1936. The amendments, incorporated in the Payment of Wages (amendment) Bill, are being taken up in the light of the recommendations made by the group of ministers. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan said. The act regulates the payment of wages to certain classes of persons employed in the industry. It was enacted to ensure that the wages payable to employed persons covered by it are disbursed by the employers within the prescribed time limit. It also ensures that no deduction other than those authorised by law are made by the employers.
