NEW DELHI: The government is looking at easing labour laws for textile companies to control costs and help them compete globally, textile minister Mr Shankersinh Vaghela said on Thursday.

The measures under consideration include giving flexibility to export units in hiring labour, raising the weekly work limit to 60 hours from 48 and changing some contract labour laws.

The ministry is also willing to hear proposals from synthetic fibre makers, who are seeking waiver of an 8% duty on its products and a level playing field with the cotton industry, he said.
