The government on Wednesday approved a proposal to extend the deadline of importing duty-free pulses till March 31, 2010.

NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday approved a proposal to extend the deadline of importing duty-free pulses till March 31, 2010.

"The ban on export of all pulses except kabuli chana has also been extended by one more year, home minister P Chidambaram said while briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

The government ban aimed at increasing supply of pulses in the country was coming to an end on March 31, 2009.
"The scheme for the distribution of imported pulses through PDS (public distribution system) has been extended by another six months," he added.The scheme was to end on March 31 this year.
