Govt clears ADAG's tech SEZ in Maha
The Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) has received the go-ahead from the Maharashtra government and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to develop a 45-acre dedicated special economic zone (SEZ) for IT/ITeS units.
The Reliance Infocomm Infrastructure-promoted SEZ is slated to create well over 7 lakh sq ft of prime commercial space for IT/ITeS units. Investment details are under wraps, but the company is likely to invite space bookings from IT/ITeS unit developers once the SEZ venture is cleared through a formal commerce ministry notification.
When contacted, a Reliance Communications spokesperson told ET: “The Maharashtra government and MIDC have recently issued a no-objection certificate (NoC) for development of an SEZ that will focus on IT/ITeS ventures on some 45 acres of contiguous land inside the 137-acre DAKC. The project will be executed by RCom subsidiary, Reliance Infocomm Infrastructure. The issue of an official commerce ministry notification is awaited. The facility will create roughly 7-10 lakh sq ft of prime commercial space for setting up IT/ITeS.”
The reasons behind the ADAG move to unlock value by setting up an IT/ITeS SEZ through an RCom subsidiary are fairly obvious. Not only does RCom have nearly 137 acres of prime real estate at DAKC, it also has a huge global bandwidth capacity, developed land and access to reliable power supply that figures on the wish-list of any and every potential IT/ITeS unit developer.
