NEW DELHI: The government on Tuesday clarified that employees who joined the services on January 2 would be entitled to get an increment in July, if the first day of the year happened to be a Sunday or a gazetted holiday.

"The government servants who join posts on the first working day of the year will be treated to have completed six months of service on July 1 of that year for the purpose of granting them annual increment on that day," a release by the finance ministry said.

The finance ministry issued an office memorandum in view of the clarification sought by certain departments regarding the date of increment for employees who could not join service on January 1 as it happened to be either a Sunday or a gazetted holiday.
