Government has circulated a "discussion paper" among the various stakeholders with a view to make labour market flexible, Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: Government has circulated a "discussion paper" among the various stakeholders with a view to make labour market flexible, Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.

In a written reply to a question, Labour Minister K Chndrashekhar Rao said stakeholders views have been sought on amendment to contract labour (regulation and abolition) Act, 1970 by placing certain activities in a separate schedule.

Views have also been sought on amendment in the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.

To a query on Employee Provident Fund Organisation appointing Mercer Human Resources Consulting as consultant even as CITU raised allegations of wrong doing against the company's sister concern Marsh Inc, Rao said the matter was taken up with them.

Government raised the issue of Mercer's alleged involvement in providing inaccurate information to New York Stock Exchange in the matter of compensation package to its chairman and allegation of wrong doing against March Inc.

Rao said Mercer had clarified that their role was restricted to advise on acturaial and pension related matters and did not involve reddering of advise or services concerning compensation committee's annual decisions regarding compensatio n of New York Exchange Employees.

The company also clarified that it was an independent company run entirely by its own management and events surrounding Marsh Inc do not have any bearing on Mercer's operations.
