Govt awards Rs 792 crore PAN 2.0 project to LTI Mindtree, rollout likely in 18 months
LTI Mindtree has been awarded the Income Tax Department's PAN 2.0 project for ₹792 crore, aiming to consolidate PAN and TAN services into a unified platform. Approved in November 2024, the project seeks to streamline processes like allotment, upda...

The project is scheduled to go live within the next 18 months, reported PTI citing an official.
PAN 2.0 will serve as a unified, digital-first platform to manage all matters related to Permanent Account Number (PAN) and Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number (TAN). This includes allotment, updates and corrections, Aadhaar-PAN linking, re-issuance, and online PAN validation. It aims to improve service delivery and streamline grievance redressal processes.
LTI Mindtree will function as the Managed Service Provider (MSP) for the design, development, implementation, operations, and maintenance of the system.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) had cleared the Rs 1,435 crore PAN 2.0 project on November 25, 2024. Existing PAN holders are not required to reapply under the upgraded system.
Currently, PAN-related services are split across three platforms—e-Filing Portal, UTIITSL Portal, and Protean e-Gov Portal. PAN 2.0 aims to merge these into one consolidated system.
The project will cover a database of over 81.24 crore PANs and more than 73 lakh TANs. PAN is a 10-digit alphanumeric identifier issued to Indian taxpayers, while TAN is issued to entities deducting or collecting tax at source.
Under PAN 2.0, the process will be entirely digital. Allotment, updating, and corrections will be free of charge, with e-PANs delivered to registered email IDs.
Shares of LTI Mindtree were trading at Rs 5,090.50 apiece on Monday, up 1.46% on the BSE.
