A Parliamentary Committee has asked the government to expedite the implementation of various schemes meant for minorities to ensure development of the educationally and economically backward communities in a time bound manner.

NEW DELHI: A Parliamentary Committee has asked the government to expedite the implementation of various schemes meant for minorities to ensure development of the educationally and economically backward communities in a time bound manner.

The committee on Social Justice and Empowerment said it desires that the process of formulation, approval and implementation of schemes be expedited to ensure overall development of the educationally and economically backward minority communities in a "time-bound" manner.

The report was tabled in Parliament today. Headed by BJP's Sumitra Mahajan, the 31-member committee noted that the government have approved the scheme for merit-cum-means scholarship and free coaching and allied scheme for candidates belonging to minority communities.

The formulation of other schemes like pre-matric scholarship scheme, post matric scholarship scheme, Grants-in- aids to State Channelising Agencies of National Minorities Finance Corporation, research, monitoring, evaluation including publicity scheme for minority concentration districts are being processed by the ministry, it said.
