Govt allows over 20k tonne sugar export to EU

Government has allowed export of 20,309 tonne of sugar to the European Union for 2007-08.

NEW DELHI: The government has allowed export of 20,309 tonne of sugar to the European Union for 2007-08.

In a notification issued here, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said out of the production in the 2006-07 season, 10,000 tonne of white sugar can be exported between July 2007 and June 2008.

In a separate notification, the DGFT said 10,309 tonne of raw sugar, out of the free sale portion of the current season's production, can be exported to the EU between October 2007 and September 2008.

Indian sugar season runs from October to September. The Indian Sugar Exim Corporation, promoted by Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) and cooperative sugar factories, is the designated agency for export of sugar to the EU under preferential quota.
