The food ministry, on Friday, launched ‘Mera Ration’ mobile app which will help ration card holders, especially migrant workers, to avail subsidised foodgrains from any fair price shops across the country. Food secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said the mobile app will help in better implementation of one nation one ration card (ONORC) scheme, which will be rolled out in the next few months.

“At present 32 states and Union Territories are covered under ONORC and integration of remaining four states – Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and West Bengal – is expected to be completed in next few months,” said Pandey.

The system covers about 690 million people under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), which is 86% of total NFSA population, said Pandey. “At present, a monthly average of about 1.5-1.6 crore portability transactions are being recorded under ONORC,” he said.
