Four states submit proposal for PCPIR policy
Following Centre's enactment of Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region policy, four states have submitted their proposals to set up such exclusive regions in their territory.
"Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat and West Bengal have submitted their proposals for PCPIR which are under consideration of high-powered committee," K C Mishra, joint secretary, ministry of chemicals and fertilizers, told PTI.
These proposals would be put for approval of the central cabinet once high powered committee scans them, Mishra said in the backdrop of a two-day-long Reverse Buyer-seller meet (Gulf Chemie Meet 2007) in North Goa organised by basic chemicals, pharmaceuticals and cosmetic export promotion council (CHEMEXCIL).
In Karnataka, the exclusive region is planned at Mangalore while in Gujarat it will come at Delhej. Besides this, the proposals have also come for setting up PCPIR at Vishakhapattanam in Andhra Pradesh and Haldia in West Bengal, he said.
Under the PCPIR policy, the Union Government will provide all the required physical infrastructure and utilities while petroleum and petrochemical department will be the nodal agency for these projects, he said.
"All these places from where the proposals have been received has certain degree of petrochemical activity going on," he said, adding that the ministry is interested in setting up these regions in ground field rather than going for totally green field sites.
