NEW DELHI: Former planning commission members have been invited to attend the meeting called by the Yojana Bhawan to deliberate the role and structure of the new body that will replace the Commission.

ET had reported on Friday that the Tuesday meeting is likely to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Former Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia is unlikely to attend but sources say he may send his comments. Members called to attend the meeting include Abhijit Sen, Arun Maira, BK Chaturvedi, Saumitra Chaudhuri, Syeda Hameed and Narendra Jadhav.

In his Independence Day address PM had said Planning Commission would be soon replaced with a new institution. “We need a new body with a new soul. We will have to think about giving a new shape to the Planning Commission. Very soon this new institute will start working in place of the Planning Commission,” Modi had said.
