THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala government has decided to implement the National Food Security Act in the state from October 2.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, a statement released here said today.

The project will be implemented by including the present list of ration card holders in BPL and Antyodaya Anna Yojana category.

Distribution of new ration cards have been stopped but temporary cards will be issued in case of emergencies.

New ration cards from now on will be issued in the name of senior women member of the family, the release said.
