FM hints saving plan for pensioners

new delhi: in a move which would take the sting out of the personal income-tax proposals in this budget, the finance minister has hinted at widening of the special saving scheme for retiring government and psu employees and those opting for vrs to include all classes of salaried people including those in the private sector. announcing this at a special session on budget 2002-03 organised by the assocham, the finance minister said the proposal is currently being debated in the ministry and no final decision has been taken as yet. such a scheme would balance the interests of those for and against the proposal to lower interest rates by 50 basis points, he added. criticising media for creating confusion on dividend tax sinha said that the income-tax department won’t insist on any tds certificate.
