Floor level minimum wages hiked

Government has recently increased national floor level minimum wages to Rs 50 per day with effect from September one this year, Lok Sabha was informed on Monday.

NEW DELHI: Government has recently increased national floor level minimum wages to Rs 50 per day with effect from September one this year, Lok Sabha was informed on Monday.
Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma said while replying to a spate of supplementaries during Question Hour.
Former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar said those running village industries were in dire straits financially as they were unable to pay the minimum wages to their employees and due to this the Government was keen on closing down these industries.
In reply to another question, the Minister said during the Tenth Plan, 50 million employment opportunities are proposed to be generated.
Out of this, about 30 million employment opportunities will be from usual growth process and the remaining 20 million through special employment generation schemes with special emphasis on Agriculture, Irrigation, Agro-Forestry, Small and Medium Enterprises, Information and Communication Technology, Tourism and other services.
