FinMin to come to B'lore for Karnataka Budget preparation

BANGALORE: Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram is expected here on February 16 to discuss issues relating to budget of Karnataka, under President's Rule, to be presented in Parliament.
Karnataka Chief Secretary Sudhakar Rao said as per the tentative schedule, Chidambaram would be here on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference after reviewing development works at a meeting, attended by Deputy Commissioners and CEOs of Zilla Panchayats and other key officials, Governor Rameshwar Thakur said the 11th Plan priorities for Karnataka would also be discussed with the Finance Minister.
"Certain parts of the State are not as developed as other parts. We are concerned about the regional imbalance in the State", Thakur said, adding, the State would look at ways to reduce regional imbalance substantially, if not put a full-stop to it altogether.
Besides state resources, Karnataka may seek Central assistance, if necessary, to address the issue of imbalance, he said.
Thakur also said the Centre has agreed to implement the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme in all districts of Karnataka from April, from the current five districts.
At the day-long meeting, different works done, those in progress and remaining to be done were reviewed, district-wise and programme-wise on some occasions. The Governor told officials that funds would not be a constraint.
Directions were issued to draw up contingency plans to meet water shortage in summer months, and arrangements for this purpose were discussed.
