The government today said the recommendations of the National Fibre Policy (NFP) have been incorporated in the 12th Five-Year Plan.

NEW DELHI: The government today said the recommendations of the National Fibre Policy (NFP) have been incorporated in the 12th Five-Year Plan.

"The recommendations of the National Fibre Policy have been incorporated into the 12th Five-Year Plan (2012-17)," Minister of State for Textiles Panabaaka Lakshmi said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

The government has placed in public domain the draft policy, designed with a decade's (2010-20) perspective, to place India firmly on the world fibre map.

It aims at strengthening the existing policy framework along with providing institutional and technological support for rapid fibre growth, she said.

Replying to another query, Lakshmi said, the share of India's handicrafts items in the global textiles trade was 0.6 per cent and handloom products was 2 per cent in 2010 (calendar year).

Besides, Lakshmi said, the government is providing financial assistance to exporters for participation in exhibitions abroad as well as incentives including Focus Product Scheme and reduction in transaction cost, under the Foreign Trade Policy.
