new delhi: a decision on the issue of foreign direct investment (fdi) in the print media would be taken after examining the report of the parliamentary committee on it, information and broadcasting minister sushma swaraj said on friday. “the fdi issue was with the standing committee. we have received its report and are examining it. some dissent notes are also there,� she told reporters on the sidelines of cii’s annual session here. she said the government will come out with a comprehensive policy on the issue of foreign investment in the print media after examining the committee’s report. asked what her personal view was on the matter, she said a “minister does not have personal views�. to a question why the union cabinet deferred a decision on allowing limited equity in non-news, non-current affairs and specialised publications, she said “we wanted to discuss the issue in a comprehensive manner�. the standing committee on information technology headed by cpi-m leader somnath chatterjee rejected fdi in the print media, though there were some dissent notes favouring fdi up to 26 per cent in the sector. the committee also suggested that the government come out with a comprehensive print media policy.
