Export strategy for services sector

CHENNAI: A medium-term export strategy exclusively for the services sector is being formulated by the Centre, taking note of the WTO negotiations and international experiences.

"we hope to announce the strategy in two months," said dr h a c prasad, advisor (economic division), ministry of commerce, at session on medium-term export strategy 2000-07, organised by the cii here. prasad said this detailed strategy for export of services would be mainly based on recommendations of the committee set up by the department of commerce on data related issues pertaining to the services sector. he said the country could not only achieve one per cent share of world trade, but also surpass it, if the medium-term export strategy, already announced by the centre for indian products sector, was implemented. at present the share of india''s exports in the world trade is 0.67 per cent. prasad said the strategy envisaged setting up of an action committee under the commerce secretary with the economic advisor, economic division of the ministry, as the nodal officer.
