Exim Policy to aim at transparency: Maran

KOLKATA: The Export-Import Policy would be aimed at bringing more transparency and simplification of procedures to enable exporters increase the country's share in global market, Commerce & Industry Minister Murasoli Maran said.

"we want to simplify matters and bring in more transparency into the system. this is to strengthen the growing partnership between the government and the exporters," maran said. addressing an interactive session on exim policy, 2002-7, organised by bharat chamber of commerce, the minister said the centre was taking measures to achieve its pronounced target of gaining a share of at least one per cent in the global market by the tenth plan period (2002-7). the centre, he said, has already set up a committee for implementation of its mid-term strategies for export growth. it was also putting stress on increasing exports of services and has formed a task force "to examine the role of service sector, whose share in gdp is increasing". besides, it has also decided to offer financial incentives to the state governments in order to encourage them promote exports from their region, he said. speaking on the occasion, union commerce secretary dipak chatterjee said the exim policy would be based on "three pillars" - transparency, simplification of export promotion schemes and bringing down transaction costs for exporters.
