NEW DELHI: Leading think-tank National Council for Applied Economic Research (NCAER) has underlined the need for encouraging manufacturing sector to generate more jobs especially for the unskilled workforce.

"It is important that India broaden the base of current expansion by promoting programmes that will increase India's attractiveness as a source of manufactured goods for the world market," according to the second volume of the India Policy Forum to be released tomorrow and prepared jointly by the NCAER and the Brookings Institution.

The study further says the growth of the manufacturing sector is also necessary to provide jobs to a large number of workforces.

The study would be released at the fourth meeting of the India Policy Forum beginning tomorrow, Director General of the NCAER Suman K Bery told media.

The two-day programme, he said, would deliberate on various economic issues concerning the nation. There would be sessions on power sector, higher education, micro-finance and land reforms.

Renowned economist T N Srinivasan would deliver a public lecture on "economic reforms, external opening and growth: China and India," Bery said adding Finance Minister P Chidambaram would also address the gathering.
