Double trouble: Mauritius assures India on taxation treaty

Mauritius on Friday assured India it would not allow misuse of the Double Taxation treaty between the two nations through money laundering and tax evasion and would be "ruthless" with offenders.

new delhi: after months of bitterness on vexatious issues such as money laundering, tax evasion and terrorist financing, india and mauritius have formally agreed to “review the working� of the double taxation avoidance agreement. taking care to emphasise that the agreement was alive and well, the mauritius finance minister and deputy prime minister raymond paul berenger said a review of the operation would be to ensure that money laundering or terrorist financing activities are not carried out.
