Decks cleared for speedy disposal of cases for bounced cheques

With the passage of Negotiatable Instruments (Amendment) Bill 2002, the decks are now cleared for expeditious disposal of cases related to dishonoured cheques, the government said on Tuesday.

NEW DELHI: With the passage of Negotiatable Instruments (Amendment) Bill 2002, the decks are now cleared for expeditious disposal of cases related to dishonoured cheques, the government said on Tuesday.
The Bill also provides for summary trials, for dispensing with personal appearance of the complainant for preliminary evidence and allowing it through affidavit, an official release said.
In Delhi, 62,162 cases for dishonoured cheques are pending while in Mumbai there are 64,083 cases, the release added.
